There are lots of commercial foods and treats for dog.
I don't think commercial dog food is not for them, it is for human, especially big company's dog food.

If you have more time and energy to spend make your dog food more nutritional, you can add fresh veg and fruits in their meal.
There are some veg need to be cooked for better absorption.
Radish or cucumber is one of veg you can just give them to eat.
I give them as treat and also put it in their meal.
Everything I choose for their veg&fruit mix has good reasons to eat them also feed your dog.
It take around half an hour to make and cook this for once a week.
Feed your adult dog 10-20% of their body weight.

Porridge with kiwi and some berries
Rice with cooked chicken, potato and carrot in tumeric powder.
Porrige with banana and apple.
Simple!
